Tough draw for Van de Zandschulp at the Australian Open, Jesper de Jong still in the race

In the first round of the Australian Open, Botic van de Zandschulp has to start right away. The tennis player will meet Jannik Sinner, number 4 in the world. Tallon Greekpoor from Nieuw-Vennep competes against Roman Safioellin from Russia and thus draws a lot more favorably.

At the first grand slam of the year, Sinner and Van de Zandschulp are in the quarter with the Australian Alex de Minaur and the Russian Andrej Roeblev. If they win in the first round, Greek Spoor will play against the Frenchman Arthur Fils or the Czech Jiri Vesely. Holger Rune, the number 8 in the world, could be his opponent in the third round.

Jesper de Jong can still dream of participating in the main tournament of the Australian Open. The 23-year-old from Hoofddorp is in the decisive third round of the qualifying tournament. De Jong, number 148 in the world, defeated Brazilian Felipe Meligeni Alves in two sets (7-6, 6-1).

Brewer disabled

For Gijs Brouwer, participation in the Australian Open is not an option. De Venhuizer lost yesterday in two sets to Alex Molcan (6-4, 6-4). Last year Brouwer made his debut at Wimbledon.

The main tournament starts on Sunday January 14 in Melbourne. The final will be played at Rod Laver Arena on January 28.
