Topman ProRail: train accident black day for the Dutch railway

The top man of ProRail John Voppen speaks of a “black day for the Dutch railway” because of the train accident at Voorschoten on Tuesday morning. “My thoughts go out to everyone involved.”

ProRail also indicates that a crane was involved in the accident, but it is still unclear what the role of this crane is in the cause. It would be a construction crane belonging to a contractor, which, according to a reporter, is tilted on the track on site. The night train was on its way from Leiden to The Hague.

One person has been killed in the accident so far. Nineteen people have been taken to hospital. It is still unknown how many seriously injured there are, but Security Region Hollands Midden previously spoke of several. Twenty people were treated at the scene.
