The 26-year-old Brit provided a sensation in mid-August by breaking the world record in the 200 meters with flying start to twice. Lavreysen was the fastest ever since the Paris Olympic Games last year with 9,088, but Richardson went under two tenths (8.857).

Richardson was presented on Thursday in Yerseke in Zeeland with a mussel party. He immediately had a message for Lavreysen, who tightened the record on the 200-meter track in Ahoy last year to 9.674. “I think it’s fantastic to be there in Rotterdam and my goal is indeed to take that record from Harrie.”

Lavreysen on Facetime with Richardson

Lavreysen had one earlier in the day Facetime-S conversation with Richardson, who is every effort to deduct Lavreysen in 2028 as Olympic champion on the Keirin and individual sprint. At the end of October this year they will meet each other first during the World Cup course in Chile.

“I am full of training for that World Cup. That is my main goal this season,” Lavreysen in turn warns Richardson. “Of course it is frustrating that you have to watch your world record from a distance, but at the same time it also gives me energy to train hard and see how I can take that back. For me, peaks at the right times is the most important and then the world record comes naturally.”

The 28-year-old Brabander shines with the idea that Richardson is making his six-day debut in Rotterdam. “Really super cool. I think we can fight nice duels there.” The five -time Olympic champion knows all too well that the Brit also felt it at the top time in Ahoy in the 200 meters. “Haha, I am planning to sharpen it further. I am already looking forward to it.”
