The German Skating Union (DEU) loses two of its best teams in the post-Olympic winter.

Minerva Hase and Nolan Seegert, who came fifth in pairs at the World Championships, and the ice dancers Katharina Müller/Tim Dieck will go their separate ways in the future. Both couples have been on the ice together since 2014.

The impetus for a separation at Hase/Seegert came from Minerva Hase. “I was able to learn a lot from Nolan as a young runner, I’ve grown a lot as a person and as an athlete in recent years. I’m very grateful to him for that,” said the 23-year-old, who now wants to continue her career with a new partner .

The sporting future of sports soldier Seegert, who lost his strength in the Olympic freestyle in Beijing after a ten-day corona quarantine, is still uncertain. After the physical collapse of the 29-year-old, he and his partner in Beijing ended up finishing 16th and last instead of the top ten they had hoped for.

Katharina Müller and Tim Dieck, on the other hand, had already achieved their common goal by taking part in the Olympics. When planning the post-Olympic season, the plans of the two-time German ice dance champions went too far apart. While Dieck wants to continue to subordinate everything to sport until the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Müller would like to devote more time to her studies in the future. Both are looking for new partners for their sporting future.

The German Skating Union supports its athletes in their planning. “We regret that the two couples have separated, they were the top performers in our association in their disciplines,” said DEU sports director Claudia Pfeifer: “We are counting on them being able to successfully continue their sporting future with new partners.”
