‘Too left and too woke!’

Renze Klamer is already struggling with meager viewing figures, but now also gets Guido den Aantrekker over him. The editor-in-chief of Story finds the talk show host ‘too left and too woke’.

It’s not going well for Renze Klamer. While he is already plagued by disappointing viewing figures, he now also gets a big sneer from Story boss Guido den Aantrekker. The magazine maker is quite annoyed by the talk show host: “Isn’t Renze a bit too left and too woke for the neutral intended RTL 4?”

‘This sounds ugly’

Guido thus responds to Renze’s opening yesterday, in which he spoke about the cabinet’s decision to use cruise ships for the reception of asylum seekers. “You have to do something with those people”, responded table guest Jan Struijs, chairman of the Dutch Police Association.

Jan: “I’ve been to Ter Apel several times and when you talk to those people… The real refugees, eh… I’m not talking about the underprivileged, because then I think: you have to follow the law and actually send them back right away.”

Renze admonished him: “I think ‘the hopeless’ sounds a bit ugly. They are called the safelanders.”

tent camp

VVD MP Ulysse Ellian was then asked about the fact that asylum seekers in Ter Apel sleep in tent camps. “My parents also came from very difficult circumstances. My father had to flee Iran. If you are here, then that tent is of course not what you want to offer, but you are in a safe country with people who offer you help.”

According to Ulysse, we should not exaggerate the seriousness of the situation in Ter Apel. “Of course this is not the image we want to see, but it is better than being in the middle of the Taliban right now in Afghanistan.”

Very warm

It’s nice that there are no Taliban here, but it is very warm to sleep in a tent now, Renze thinks. “Yeah, what if you’re out in a field with a four-year-old kid with a four-year-old kid outside last night with over 30 degrees without a pillow?”

Ulysse: “Of course, that’s not pleasant and I’m the first to acknowledge that, but what I want to say is: you are in a country where you will really be taken care of in the end and you are still better off than the whole ugly places you come from.”

Renze: “Okay, well, noted.”

Too woke, Guido thinks. And he didn’t like the way Renze recently interviewed farmer foreman Sjaak van der Tak. “Pfoe, what Renze is trying to be the persistent journo. Chill out, dude. It’s late night TV – not an Inquisition,” he tweeted at the time.

Not in top 15

Renze was unable to conquer a place in the daily top 15 viewership for the seventh episode in a row yesterday. 483 thousand people (13 percent market share) watched his broadcast on RTL 4. B&B Vol Liefde scored immediately before 892 thousand viewers (20 percent) . When Renze’s talk show starts, many people zap away.

Does Renze perhaps score well in the commercial target group of people between 20 and 54 years old? In this, B&B Vol Liefde took 28 percent of the market share, compared to 13 percent for Renze. “Ai”, sums up viewing figures expert Tina Nijkamp.
