Tonight’s big Apple announcements have already leaked: Here’s what’s going to happen | Tech

Tonight at 7 p.m. Apple will start its annual press conference, at which the latest iPhones are traditionally presented. The iPhone 14 thus seems as good as a fact, but according to insiders there is even more on the agenda.

Officially, Apple has not yet revealed what will be announced tonight, but in practice we often know a lot in advance. The necessary has already been leaked through usually reliable sources, so that we can make a nice estimate of the precise plans. The following has not yet been confirmed, but it is likely.

Would you rather know what is really being presented? Then turn on at 7pm, when we’ll be reporting live on all announcements.

iPhone 14 largely the same

The iPhone 14 will probably come in four flavors: two regular devices of 5.4 and 6.7 inches, which are accompanied by Pro variants with the same screen sizes. The earlier mini version would have been withdrawn from the line-up by Apple.

The two regular devices are very similar to last year’s iPhone 13, with a notch at the top of the screen for sensors and cameras. Presumably, this iPhone also has the same chip as in the iPhone 13, making it just as fast as its predecessor. However, the ultrawide camera should be slightly better.

iPhone 14 Pro screen is always on

The Pro phones get a bigger upgrade. The sensors above the screen are now housed in a kind of small ‘pill’ that floats on the screen. In addition, these models may receive a always on screen, which shows information even when the phone is locked. A function that has been common on Android phones for some time.

The rear camera takes up even more space than on the iPhone 13 Pro, to make way for a larger 48-megapixel sensor. It also makes it possible to record videos in 8K.

Also getting an upgrade is the price: Insiders think the iPhone 14 Pro will be about $100 more expensive than the iPhone 13 Pro was last year. It remains to be seen how the euro price will change.

AirPods Pro 2 with fitness trackers

The AirPods Pro will probably also get a new variant, with a chip on the inside that provides better sound and smarter noise reduction. The caps also have to last longer on a full battery.

There is also talk of health sensors, which, for example, measure your heart rate while running. Handy if you don’t have an Apple Watch while exercising.

Apple Watch (Pro)

The Apple Watch Series 8 comes in two variants this year: a regular Apple Watch and a Pro variant. It would be the first time that Apple has split its watch range in this way.

The Apple Watch Pro should be larger than the previous watches, with a screen diagonal of 45 millimeters. A sturdier design should make it ideal for mountain bikers, for example.

However, the new watch would not work with straps from previous generations. In addition, the Pro will be more expensive than previous Apple Watches.

A taste of smart glasses?

Apple has been hinting at the arrival of smart glasses for years. It is uncertain whether it will be presented during the iPhone event, but the tech giant is aiming for an introduction in 2022 or early 2023. In addition, the gadget is almost ready for production.

Apple would first present virtual reality glasses. This will come with a hefty price tag, possibly several thousands of euros. This must be an advance to later augmented reality glasses, which project virtual objects on top of the real world. It would not come on the market until much later.

If Apple shows any of these glasses, it might just be a taste. We don’t think it will be available to order until much later.

Small chance of new iPads

Apple is known for introducing new iPads around these months. The cheap iPad and more expensive iPad Pro should both receive an upgrade this year, which may be revealed during the September event.

There’s also a chance that both iPads won’t get their turn until October. Sometimes Apple organizes a separate iPad event, provided it concerns major upgrades.
