Himos midsummer festival once again attracted thousands of festival-goers to Himos in Jämsä. The sold-out event lasted the whole Midsummer from Thursday to Saturday. Iltalehti followed the event from Friday to Saturday.

The Finnish youth were entertained by, among others, JVG, Apulanta, Antti Tuisku, who is ending his career, and Gettomasa.

This year’s festival crowd looked sparkling and colorful. There was plenty of see-through clothing and bottom-revealing pants in the audience. There were also plenty of different glittery outfits. According to the latest trends, the women wore fringed skirts and net-like dresses.

The festival arrangements work well. Last year, the water toilet bracelet that shocked people was also in use this year. Despite inflation, the price level was typical for festivals. You could get a beer for eight euros. However, I had to shell out four euros for a bottle of water.

The weather was sunny and warm on Friday and Saturday.

The sound of security fences

Friday’s biggest attraction was JVG, who received resounding calls from the audience even before the show started. The band surprised by playing their old hits like Wow, Four eye and Faija. Things got particularly rowdy when the duo sang their mega hit At the wedding and The eternal first of May.

Gettomasa was also one of Friday’s performers that the audience liked. The performance at the gig was downright rude for both the performer and the audience. Security fences rattled and shoes and shirts flew as the audience celebrated to the rhythm of the artist from Jyväskylä. After the concert, the rapper told Iltalehte that rudeness is an essential part of hip hop and belongs to it.

On Saturday night, the party crowd was excited by the rapper Sexmane. The rapper, who had only been making music for a few years, boldly took over the audience and offered the Himos audience a memorable performance. Sexmane talked to the festival-goers from the stage, organized a funny shouting contest and performed with emotion. The rapper stayed after his performance to meet his fans in the front row.

Saturday night’s main performer was the band Apulanta. During the band’s performance, the front row had changed from festival-goers in their twenties to more grown-up Apulanta fans.

Before the band started their 1998 song You made us beautiful, Sipe Santapukki asked how many visitors have come to the first Apulanta gig. The audience shouted so loudly that even on stage it was understood that the target audience was very young.

– Hello children, here is something that your father and mother listened to when they made you, Toni Wirtanen piped into the mic.

– This song is as old as the internet! Santa Claus shouted into the mic before the song Worm.

Himos juhannus seemed to be a special place for many midsummer performers. Wirtanen said that he met his life partner Jannika B on the spot. Gettomasa said that he celebrated Himos at midsummer when he was younger.

After the last gig, some of the party crowd left the area for their cabins or tent accommodation. Some stayed in the area to celebrate.
