Toni Kroos returns to the DFB team

Toni Kroos will return to the German national team. The Real Madrid star announced this via Instagram.

Toni Kroos will make his comeback to the German national team. The 34-year-old announced this on his Instagram account on Thursday. He wrote: “Guys, short and painless: I will play for Germany again from March. Why? Because I was asked by the national coach, I’m keen and I’m sure that a lot more is possible with the team at the European Championships than most just believe!”

Kroos published two pictures in the national team jersey. He wore number eight until his retirement in 2021 after the European Championships. The central midfielder has played 106 international matches and scored 17 goals. In 2014 he became world champion with Germany.

Rüdiger triggered a thought experiment

In recent months there has been repeated talk about Toni Kroos returning to the national team. National coach Julian Nagelsmann also left a back door open last December when, when asked about Kroos’ return, he spoke of an “interesting idea” in the “Sportstudio”.

Kroos had also left the option open since then. The discussion began with an interview by Antonio Rüdiger. The DFB player told DAZN last year that he would like Kroos to return to the national team. “I ask him every day,” added the Real teammate at the time.

Now it actually happened like that. Kroos will be there in March against France in Lyon (March 23) and against the Netherlands in Frankfurt am Main (March 26).

Felix Kroos has already given an indication

Felix Kroos, the Real Madrid star’s two years younger brother, hinted at something at lunchtime when he posted a bag of popcorn on his Instagram story. The German Football Association also left room for speculation before Kroos’ announcement.

The association wrote on Instagram: “Dear Toni, we still have exclusive tickets. The decisive factor is the seat! It starts in March – see you! PS will then also be on our necks.”
