The celebrations with firecrackers in Spain are increasingly called into question due to the increase in awareness of the harm they cause in many dogs, whose stress rises above normal and they may suffer serious consequences for your health. It is a topic of public debate that confronts those who defend that it has always been celebrated with fire large social events and those who point out that it would be possible to enjoy the celebrations without the need to make pets suffer.
We have been able to experience a clear example recently, during the New Year celebrationwhere many have taken to the streets wanting to welcome 2025 by breaking out a few fireworks.
This week the debate has moved hotly to the television and has faced a defender of each position. It’s been on the show’Public Mirror‘ from Antena 3, where they have found, on the one hand, Toni Canto as a defender of firecrackers and, on the other hand, Gonzalo Miro as a detractor.
The Madrid presenter has two dogs at home and explained how bad it is when they hear the firecrackers going off: “I have had dogs all my life and it has always happened to me“, he commented before pointing out that “If I said here what I thought about firecrackers, they’d probably arrest me.“.
On the other hand, the actor and former politician did not share Miró’s vision: “I would say that, in that case, take your dog outside“, he was honest about these designated dates. Instead of keeping the pets at home, if they are having a bad time, Cantó has recommended his interlocutor to look for a “daycare” for dogs during times of celebration and has put the Valencia faults as an example of a celebration in which fireworks are used, demonstrating how important they are for tradition in Spain.
