What does the daily life of a small schoolchild look like in Japan? A mixture of discipline and love.

A Japanese-American-Finnish-French co-production documentary has appeared in Arena A school year in Japan. The documentary will also be shown today on TV Teema & with Femi. The documentary follows the lives of children in a Tokyo elementary school for one year.

At Tsukado elementary school, teaching is based on old military training. The actual school day is still not particularly startling. Children are encouraged to clean up after themselves and keep their surroundings tidy, arrive on time and act as examples for younger schoolchildren. They are taught a sense of responsibility and a straight attitude. At the same time, children are encouraged to make art, develop their expression and be proud of their achievements.

In a Tokyo elementary school, children are trained to become responsible and obedient adults. Over

Precise systematization and planning are also related to things that are foreign to Finns. In the middle of the lesson, the radio announces: “This is an exercise.” First graders dive under their desks to hide without further instructions. “An earthquake is about to strike,” the radio announcement continues.

Earthquakes occur in Japan, and you need to practice protecting yourself against them. In the simulation exercise, the children do what they have been taught in case of an earthquake. There is no fear of earthquakes in Finland.

The children are crouching under the table waiting for the following instructions.

Next, the radio’s voice tells you that it’s time for an evacuation drill. “The earthquake is over, but there was a fire in the kitchen.”

The children put on their protective hoods and move to the yard.

– Now speed up! How are you so slow? The teacher supervising the situation shouts.

The practice is explained in more detail in the document.

– Even here in Tokyo, a strong earthquake is expected in the near future. How can elementary school students prepare for it? By doing daily chores, cleaning every day and taking care of your belongings. Mastering basic everyday skills is important. That’s where our strength lies, even if disaster strikes.

The documentary was filmed during the corona pandemic. Over

In the documentary, school children from different grade levels are met, but the first graders who are starting their school days are mostly followed.
