Today Inside changes course during the Football World Cup. A new decor with a Happy Days atmosphere and Johan Derksen who slams on the brakes because he prefers not to talk about football. “Nice!”
The Football World Cup starts today and Today Inside takes the opportunity to completely change the decor for the occasion. Wilfred Genee gives in front of the camera Show news a tip of the veil: it will be Happy Days-like, so a decor with an old American atmosphere as we know it from the sitcom from the seventies.
Happy Days
Wilfred thinks it is very atmospheric. “We have a completely new decor. I happened to see some photos. It’s a bit Happy Days-like. That’s what it looks like. This way I give away something of the decor. It reflects a bit of the old American atmosphere.”
After four weeks in Curaçao, the entire SBS team returns to Hilversum. Only one person remains on the other side of the ocean: Noa Vahle, who reports from host country America. “Yes, of course we will also interact a lot with Noa.”
‘Johan doesn’t want to’
However, it will not only be about football, says Wilfred. Johan Derksen doesn’t like that. “We will of course start with the official World Cup song, The Cuckoo Song, of course. And then we will just preview the fantastic match between Mexico and South Africa.”
He continues: “But we are also going to talk about all the other things, because you know that Johan Derksen actually thinks that we should not talk too much about football and especially about the situation in the world.”
Three in one evening
How is Wilfred going to handle that? “We’re going to try to create that mix of football – that’s why Raymond Mens is there, for example – and America. What’s happening in America? What’s happening in the world?”
“Furthermore, we often have two in one evening and there could be one or two that we even do three in one evening, but that also has a bit to do with the success of the Dutch team.”
Curacao
All in all, the SBS 6 talk show finally returns to the Netherlands tonight. How does Wilfred look back on the adventure in Curaçao? “I was actually quite busy in Curaçao, because I also had a podcast, Mi Dushi and Doordekken. I was actually quite busy.”
Johan didn’t like Curaçao at all. “The rest of us all loved it there, but he thought that if you had to film on the other side of the island and you had to stand in that heat and wind all the time, he found that tough, yes.”
Today Inside can be seen tonight at 8:00 PM and 11:00 PM on SBS 6.
