Surprise world champion

The 23-year-old Schulte set the fastest time in the ice track during the first run in the morning. The 23-year-old went into the final with a lead of 0.110 seconds. Here Taubitz was the surprise world champion, who was only 14th in the sprint. and has not yet been able to celebrate a World Cup victory in her career, although she still loses six thousandths of a second. But there was nothing more possible for Taubitz. Nevertheless, Taubitz was happy – about her second medal at the World Cup in Altenberg and overall about the sixth World Cup medal for the German team at the home World Cup.

Fräbel finishes in the top 5

The young German drivers Merle Fräbel and Melina Fabienne Fischer also showed good races. The 20-year-old Fräbel from Suhl even had a sniff of the medals in fifth place (+0.324 seconds). The 19-year-old Fischer from Zwickau came twelfth (+0.873 seconds) at her first World Championships.

Defending champion eliminated in the qualification

Defending champion Anna Berreiter, on the other hand, had a day to forget. After a driving error she almost fell. The 24-year-old was just able to avoid the fall, but in the end she only ended up in 24th place and thus missed the final round.
