The three-time Olympic champion no longer wants to travel the world as a trainer. Georg Hackl is therefore stepping down after the season.

Georg Hackl will end his coaching career in tobogganing after this World Cup season. The 59-year-old announced this in an interview with “chiemgau24.de” and the media group “Münchner Merkur/tz”.

“It is clear to me that this will be my last season in the World Cup. I have been traveling every winter for almost 40 years, and after this season it will be over,” said the three-time Olympic champion.

Hackl has been working for the Austrian Toboggan Association since May 1, 2022. There he is responsible as a trainer for driving and sledging techniques. His contract officially runs until after the 2026 Winter Olympics. The Berchtesgaden resident had already emphasized in the past that he would not see himself in the spotlight after his active coaching time ended.

“I want to continue tobogganing in some form, but no longer with this intensity,” said Hackl. He could imagine getting involved in the youth sector, as he explained: “But as I said, I don’t know exactly yet. My focus is still completely on the season, after which I can leave with a clear conscience.”

The Olympic season begins this weekend with the first World Cup races in Winterberg. The highlight follows in February with the competitions in Cortina d’Ampezzo. This is Hackl’s eleventh participation in the Winter Olympics – as a luger or coach.
