…better and better!

Another milestone has been added to the transfer market statistics. All the games played by the Malta national team are now available and retrievable in our database. Former Kaiserslautern pro Michael Mifsud, whose debut for his home country dates back to February 10, 2000, played most of the games. Since then, the still active 40-year-old has played 143 international matches.

The centre-forward, who has been with Maltese first division club Mosta FC since January 2021, is also the top scorer in his country with 42 goals scored. His five goals in the 7-1 win against Liechtenstein on March 26, 2008 are particularly memorable – at the same time the biggest victory in Malta’s history. The clearest defeat was in double digits: In Spain on December 21, 1983 in the European Championship qualifier it was 1:12. The East German national team inflicted the second largest bankruptcy in Malta’s football history with a 0-9 loss on October 29, 1977 in the World Cup qualifier.
