Title holder Kira Toussaint finishes outside the podium at the European Short Course Championships at 200 meters back

Kira Toussaint missed out on the medals in the 200 meter backstroke at the European Short Course Championships. The 29-year-old swimmer from Assendelft finished sixth in Otopeni, Romania, in 2.04.47. The gold went to the British Medi Harris in 2.02.45.

Toussaint had qualified fifth for the final on Wednesday. The British Harris was also the fastest at the time. Toussaint will compete in the 50 meter backstroke later on Thursday.

Toussaint was unbeatable at the last two European Championships. In 2019, the North Holland native won gold in the 50 and 100 meters backstroke and took bronze in the 200 backstroke. In 2021, she won gold at all three distances. On the long track she won European Championship gold in the 50 meters and European Championship bronze in the 100 meters.
