Timo Horn to Hertha BSC? That’s what Steffen Baumgart says

With well over 300 competitive appearances, Timo Hörn is one of the most experienced professionals in the 1. FC Köln squad. In the course of last season, the ex-captain was demoted to number two behind Marvin Schwäbe by head coach Steffen Baumgart. Is the goalkeeper now drawn to Hertha BSC?

Timo Horn from 1. FC Köln was recently put on a list of possible candidates who could be targeted by Hertha BSC.

If the goalkeeper, who was once even on the way to the German national team, should actually not be able to get past Marvin Schwäbe in 2022/2023, his training club and long-term employer would certainly not be averse to having Horn off the payroll.

Only one game for 1. FC Köln since November

With an estimated annual salary of three million euros, the 29-year-old is one of the absolute top earners in the team.

Head coach Steffen Baumgart doesn’t want to know that Horn again only threatens the reserve bench at Effzeh without ifs and buts. Compared to the “express” he offered the keeper the prospect of being able to regain the regular place between the posts.

“As far as his future is concerned, we are very clear: Nobody will go to Timo and say: You have to leave the club. He is one of the most deserving players FC has. One who lives this club with body and soul. Timo is a full professional and will fight for number one,” said the 50-year-old, who led 1. FC Köln back into the European Cup last season.

It is not yet known whether Hertha BSC is actually serious about the Domstädter’s own growth.

In the 2021/2022 season, Timo Horn only played 13 Bundesliga games for 1. FC Köln. In the second half of the season he was only in the box once.
