Eva Jinek’s editors must have been a little disappointed that Suzan & Freek wanted to give their first TV interview this week, thinks TV critic Victor Vlam. “The show is already full.”

It is the busiest time of the year for all television talk shows: the elections are just around the corner, so all broadcasts are filled with great ease. That is why some media are so disappointed that the Marco Borsato trial is taking place next week: they prefer to spread out the major news events a bit.

Unfortunate timing?

Now everything comes at the same time, including Suzan & Freek’s first TV interview after his horrible cancer diagnosis. The two sat with Eva Jinek this week to look back on recent times, but also to perform their new single and promote their concerts in the Gelredome. Ten (!) are now planned.

The editors of Eva must have been a bit disappointed by the timing, says TV critic Victor Vlam. After all, they could have achieved much more PR and impact with this in a news-free week, he says in the podcast Victor Indicates TV.

A week and a half later

There must have been a lot of competition behind the scenes for this interview, Victor thinks. “Eva will be happy that she was allowed to conduct this interview. I think that Eva’s editors had hoped that the new music they came to promote would be released a week and a half earlier or later.”

“Because in election time – just a few days before the elections – it is not exactly a matter of searching for topics for a talk show. In fact, there are many other topics that you could also have discussed. I think the timing was not ideal for the editors, but nevertheless they will be very happy that they got this interview.”

Not to Renze

In any case, Renze Klamer has been passed over by the musical duo. “Suzan & Freek have often been guests in his talk show in the past and apparently they also have a connection with Renze Klamer, but yes, they were with Jinek, also because they wanted to promote new music and then you don’t go to RTL Tonight.”

On many evenings, fewer than 300,000 people watch it. “So that’s not a good platform to showcase your music. If you have bad ratings, it means you get fewer good guests and then it’s harder to get better ratings. It’s a downward spiral.”
