Ticker, live streams and schedule: This is how winter sports week works at the Sportschau

As of: November 14, 2023 4:21 p.m

Winter sports are slowly picking up speed. Two more sports start the winter. There is a new Matterhorn attempt – this time by women. The alpine men travel to Ötztal for a slalom. We are there with live streams at the alpine races as well as the skeleton and bobsleigh in China.

Next attempt for the Matterhorn premiere: After the cancellation of the men’s race last weekend, the women are attempting the historic first Alpine World Cup in Zermatt this week. There is a race on the program on Saturday (November 18th, 2023) and Sunday at 11:45 a.m. However, there will not be the first downhill run in two countries; the women’s downhill run will take place exclusively on the Italian side in Cervinia.

Alpine men: Slalom in Gurgl

A week after the men had to leave Zermatt without doing anything, they are now hoping for their first World Cup race of the season in Gurgl, Austria. A slalom is on the program here from 10.45 a.m. on Saturday – it will be shown live on BR television, in the media library and on sportschau.de.

Skeleton and Bobsleigh World Cup starts

The Skeleton and Bobsleigh World Cup start the new season in China – but without the bobsleigh women. The World Cup in the women’s monobob and two-man bobsleigh was canceled because too few starters had registered. For world champion Kim Kalicki and Co. it only starts at the beginning of December in La Plagne, France.

The skeleton pilots and bobsleigh men get started. Three German skeletonis and two German men’s sleds have made their way to the Beijing 2022 Olympic track. The overall World Cup winners from last season, Christopher Grotheer and Tina Hermann, as well as world champion Susanne Kreher will be challenged in the skeleton on Friday – from 7 a.m. in the live stream at sportschau.de and in the media library.

Bob: Two German sleighs in China

Two-man world champion Johannes Lochner and four-man world champion Francesco Friedrich will start in Yanqing in the bobsleigh. The two-man competitions take place on Friday, the four-man competitions on Saturday and Sunday. For all other German skeleton and bobsledders, the weekend in Winterberg is about German championship titles – the races on the 2024 World Cup track also serve as part of the internal German World Cup selection.

Also Speed skater in China

Like the bobsledders, the speed skaters will also compete in their World Cup on the 2022 Olympic track. In Beijing from Friday to Sunday there will be races from the 500 meter sprint to the 5,000 meter long distance as well as mass starts and team sprints.
