Tia-Marie Pietikäinen has bought most of her goods used and is now sharing her tips on how you learn how to discover.
An estimated 85 % Tia-Marie Pietikäinen The things found in the home have been purchased used: at various flea markets or, for example, used items for sale.
– I also buy lingerie from the recycling center, there are many products that still have price tags left. I will never skip a ship or nightwear department because they make incredible discoveries. I’ve found several dresses, tops, corsets and bikinis.
In the past, Tia-Marie was sorry about how good her sister always made used. He felt like he never found anything and could not get around the flea markets.
When Tia-Marie moved to Helsinki to study, everything changed. He became enthusiastic about flea so that he has now ended up at this point.
– I love buying things used, because then they have a different value. I remember well where I have bought any thing.
In the past, Tia-Marie was sorry she couldn’t find anything at flea markets. When you practice enough, you can develop in flea, he encourages. Tia-Marie Pietikäinen
1. Take time
It takes time to develop into a flea bar. In order to develop somewhere, repetitions are needed, Tia-Marie recalls.
– I remember how frustrating it was at first when I felt I couldn’t find anything. In time, the eyes become ridiculed to distinguish things off the shelf. However, I will definitely still pass the expensive stuff that I do not recognize.
Time is also needed to rotate flea markets.
– If you visit the flea, I recommend that you go there in peace.
This is especially the case when Tia-Marie wants to study the free department of the Recycling Center. This kind of toning requires not only time but also a certain state of mind.
– When I feel like I can dig out properly, I start with one edge and go through my clothes one by one. Last time I made great discoveries in the bag shop, for example two different vintage fur, men’s dress jacket and lots of tops that have become my favorite clothes.
For example, you can save time by choosing a specific focus so that everything else can be ignored. Tia-Marie says that sometimes she only searches for something you need.
– You don’t have to keep a list yourself, for example, you can make a Moodboard on Pinterest, where you take reference pictures of things you are looking for. It is easier to filter out things when there is a visual memory.

2. Investigate the product – if necessary with the aid
Tia-Marie says she is not a particularly brand-conscious person, although sometimes buying branded products used.
– Everyone also has to do their own thing with a flea because people have different strengths. Someone recognizes Finnish glassware and dishes, while another is branded.
Tia-Marie himself glances in the neck. In addition to the brand, it often also tells about the age of the product.
– Neck bumps wear in high quality old clothes quite differently. In quick fashion, they are often transparent and the markings have left. Quality can also be noticed in the thickness of the fabric.
Digital aids can be supported to support your fingertips. For example, Google Lens helps you seek similarities online if it takes a picture of the product or its neck.
3. See the chance
One of the top finds made by Tia-Marie was the big black scarf of the Balmuir badge, which is a 100 % Kashmir wool. He found it in the SPR Kont’s store in Itäkeskus. The scarf cost two euros, but Tia-Marie estimates that it would be at least 150 euros.
– Many places have evolved and it is a good thing that valuable things are not sold almost for free. From the buyer’s point of view, however, it is nice that sometimes a product accidentally passes through the screen.
Tia-Marie was on the move with a friend who had passed the scarf and continued twisting. The scarf caught Tia-Marie’s attention.
– I recognized that the material was something more expensive and looked at the scarf more closely.
The glass coffee table did not look as representative as the picture when Tia-Marie bought it. Tia-Marie Pietikäinen
Tia-Marie says she recognizes quality materials such as wool, linen and silk. This helps to make the discoveries.
A skilled flea player also benefits from the ability to see what a little tuning or repairing could do for the product. The Tia-Marie coffee table now looks new, but this was not the case when the table was found in a Vilppula flea market.
– It must have been standing in the yard for a long time in the rain. The metal legs were quite rusty and the glass dirty. When I polished and cleaned it, the table became really nice. If you can use your own hands at all, you can get things really cheap.
4. Use search engines online
Tia-Marie updated her snowboarding equipment early in the year. He bought a snowboard, ties, snowboard shoes and skiing from the marketplace.
– I paid a total of € 320. New equipment would have been over a thousand euros.
For example, the jacket would cost € 260, but Tia-Marie cost 30 euros, even though the jacket was practically in a new condition. The tools were found in the same tactic that Tia-Marie has found other more valuable products.
For Tia-Marie, new snowboarding equipment was found by actively following the announcements of the search stroke. Tia-Marie Pietikäinen
– If I look for something more valuable or, for example, certain brands, I use a lot of search for in the market. I turn on the notifications and actively follow them. When I get the announcement, I’ll look at it right away.
This is a burden, Tia-Marie says, but can help make discoveries.
-From the snowboard, I received a search star announcement at eleven in the evening when I was taking the garbage. Immediately I sent a message to the seller that I wanted to buy it.
The board must have been on sale for two minutes, when Tia-Maria was already rubbing shops. The beautiful pastel weekly Salomon’s snowboard was soon for him.
– I recommend that if you really find the product of your dreams, then you should be active and make it clear that you want to buy it from going past your nose. I immediately asked when I could come to pick up the board and how the seller wants me to pay for it.
5. Dare to compromise
Tia-Marie encourages you to compromise if it feels justified, for example, if there is a fault in the product or if it is asked more than when used when sold.
– I think it is about selling used goods. If I was ting, I always try to justify it, so I don’t ask for a discount for my fun.
Compruding is not an insult and the final decision is always left to the seller, Tia-Marie recalls. He himself will leave the price face -to -face if there is a chance. For example, the possibility of misinterpretation is lower than, say, messages.
– Especially if I buy something more expensive, I want to do the shops on the spot. The conversation is nicer to take care of the face.

6. Remember that not always a tick
Tia-Marie encourages you to follow flea influencers. This makes it easy to get an idea of the flea market supply in both the place of residence and in places you may be visiting.
However, one thing is worth keeping in mind. Social media can create an incorrect image that everyone else always makes incredible discoveries. However, there is also a flea being that sometimes we return home empty-handed, says Tia-Marie.
– It’s not worth making unnecessary shopping just to buy something. It doesn’t always make discoveries, it’s just about it.
Although the goods are used, it is not worth buying it in vain, Tia-Marie recalls.
Tia-Marien’s Turn: Be sure to look at these!
Tia-Marie advises which places to take a look at the flea market. You may not think about these right away, even if you can find them!
Fitted clothes truck:
If you have a fitted clothes truck at the flea market, you should go through it. The truck has gathered discoveries that, for one reason or another, have not agreed to a previously agreed customer.
Subcart and Nightwear Department:
– As I said, I’ve made good discoveries here. Sometimes there are also stuff that is not underwear or nightwear.
Lower and top shelves and drawers:
The flea market’s gaze is easily left on the objects at his or her own eye level.
– If you can, it’s a good idea to look at all the obscure places, such as small boxes of lower shelves and different drawers. They can make discoveries that could otherwise have passed.
Additional tip: If you get, then visit!
– It would be a good idea to go to the flea market either in the morning or in the last lesson. Especially in the morning, all the places are clean and the shelves are filled, so you can collect the best ones so -called. The last hour is again quieter, and even then, things may already be supplemented.
