The THW Kiel won the Bundesliga north duel with the Handball Sport Association Hamburg and preserved its white vest. The team from Coach Filip Jicha needed a strength on Saturday evening at 27:25 (16:14) victory against the HSVH, which was also previously even loss-free.
And there was also a little fortune. Because in the final phase of the second round, the “zebras” were already behind with two goals. Previously, the record champion had also played a three-goal lead twice in a dramatic encounter. In the end, a successful block led 20 seconds before Ultimo and a hit by Harald Reinkind with the final siren to the success of the THW.
Kiel literally wants to overrun Hamburg
From the beginning, the THW implemented what Jicha had demanded before the start of the season: more speed in the attack. The “zebras” on the plate were quick and gave the impression in the initial phase that they wanted to overrun Hamburgers. After five minutes, a 3-1 lead for the home side, in which keeper Andreas Wolff also had two parades.
From the THW perspective, the national goalkeeper was also relied on in the further course of the first section. He defused five litters, but it was still less than his counterpart Robin Paulsen Haug, who increased enormously after a mixed start. However, the HSVH ball catcher also benefited from some overhanged and sloppy Kiel degrees.
Ellefsen á Skipagøtu makes the difference
Because the performance curve of the record champion showed steeply upwards during the first 30 minutes, then again in the other direction. The HSVH also experienced a mountain and descent, but was never shaken off and in the meantime led once (5: 4/12.). With a 3-0 run to 7: 5 (14th), the home side immediately turned the sheet again. In general, in half one, the Kielers were always able to increase the number of strokes in difficult situations.
Elias Ellefsen á Skipagøtu was responsible for this. The fary with the big gate hungry, which sometimes also changes between genius and madness, scored eight times in the first 30 minutes. Hamburg did not have such a “shooter” in its ranks – the big difference in the first section.
HSVH can compensate for the break
After the change of sides, fun for “Skippy” was the end of “Skippy”, how the Kiel playmaker was called. The HSVH cover took a little more “loving” in the first few minutes of the second round – and in the arms.
In addition, the somewhat surprising goalkeeper change from Haug to Mohamed Esam Moustafa EL-Tayar had an effect. The Egyptian introduced itself with two parades. The THW seemed irritated – and wiggled a little bit after the equalization at 16:16 (36.).
Hamburg suddenly with two goals ahead
But just a little bit. Because again in this emotional but fair north duel, the Jicha team had the right answer to a setback. The THW was able to pull away for the second time in the encounter to three goals (20: 17/42.) And now seemed to have all the trump cards in hand – especially since the Hamburgers were outnumbered.
But the guests just didn’t want to add small. When the native of Kiel hit Niklas Weller at 21:21 (48th), the Baltic Sea hall fell silent for the first time. Shortly afterwards, Casper Mortensen even put the HSVH in the lead (23: 22/50.). When Nicolaj Jørgensen Wolff overcame with a cheeky lifter by seven meters to 25:23 (53.), the first Hamburg victory in Kiel has been within reach since 2021.
Reinkind ensures decision with the final siren
But there were still Elias Ellefsen á Skipagøtu. First the Färinger shortened personally to 24:25, then he took out the seven meter, which led to 25:25 by Bence Imre (55.). On 26:25 by Petter Øschry, the nightmare of all indoor spokesman was not involved, but on this exciting evening he had delivered on which the pendulum finally excluded towards THW when Hamburg’s Elias Kofler received a two-minute penalty (58.).
The Kielers are the following attack. But with a great block, they prevented the equalization on the opposite side and finally made the final decision in the person of Reinkind.
