THW Kiel continues to catch up in Erlangen

Handball record champion THW Kiel has continued its race to catch up in the Bundesliga.

Coach Filip Jicha’s team celebrated their fifth league win in a row with a 31:27 (18:14) win at HC Erlangen and are still in fifth place in the table.

In front of 7,096 spectators, the hosts made life difficult for the Kiel team for a long time, only the goal from former national player Steffen Weinhold to make it 30:27 (59th) ensured the preliminary decision. With five hits, the left-hander was one of the North Germans’ best throwers alongside Nikola Bilyk and Eric Johansson. Veit Mävers impressed at Erlangen (6 goals).

“We are overjoyed that we were able to win here. It was a pretty tough game on both sides. We held on and accepted the fight,” said cyclist Patrick Wiencek on “Dyn”.

The Rhine-Neckar Lions, however, lost valuable points in the battle for international business. At TBV Lemgo Lippe, the DHB Cup winner wasted a seven-goal lead and couldn’t get past 34:34 (18:13).
