At the Luxor Theater in Meppel they are now prepared for it. Owner Albert Jan Vos says: “We need fifteen minutes to half an hour extra between the films. And Sunday evening? Then the cleaners were busy for two hours and 45 minutes. That was really a bowl of misery.”

But despite all the junk, Vos can also laugh about it: “If it stays with popcorn, great. It is also great that young people come back to the cinema.”

In Emmen it ended a little less cheerfully, there a visitor got a lot of soda against her head and even had to go to the hospital. At Luxor in Meppel, the staff has now been trained to perform after the ‘notorious moment’. Entire groups are sometimes addressed.

Manager Anouk Strijker: “Popcorn is everywhere, recently even hung on the ceiling. The carpet is then more popcorn than red. Sometimes it’s really a pigsty.” But one day it is worse than the next. “We now indicate in advance that the young people have to clean up the mess themselves, and that helps!”

Also in Assen and Hoogeveen the snacks fly through the room regularly. Cinemas already warn young people at the cash register, but it doesn’t always help.
