Three suspects referred to assizes for robbery in Oostrozebeke
The Ghent chamber of indictment (KI) decided this on Thursday. It concerns the wife, daughter and a friend of a 40-year-old man who dealt the fatal stab wounds, but died in prison.
The facts happened on October 27, 2016. 40-year-old Nico T. then stabbed his upstairs neighbor Roland Roelens to death with fifty stabs. The man was arrested but died a few days later in prison from the effects of diabetes. However, the investigation later showed that other family members and acquaintances of the perpetrator would have been aware of the plans. It concerns wife Christelle V., daughter Melissa T. and Pedro B., a friend of Nico T.
The Ghent chamber of indictment has now referred the three persons to the court of assizes for robbery murder. The AI also issued a detention order, without immediate execution. This means that the suspects can be arrested again before the start of the trial, probably in the course of next year. For the time being, the three are free under conditions.
