Before the CL game: three Bayer players struck

Bayer 04 prevailed against FC St. Pauli on Saturday afternoon. But Leverkusen cannot really be happy.
Bayer Leverkusen celebrated his second win of the season in the Bundesliga – but the joy over the 2-1 (1: 1) at FC St. Pauli was clouded by several injuries. In addition to captain Robert Andrich, Patrik Schick and Alejandro Grimaldo also had to go off the square.
In the sold-out Millerntor Stadium, the Bundesliga runner-up had a look against strong Hamburgers over long distances, but used his few chances freezing cold. Under coach Kasper Hjulmand it is the second threesome in the third league game – one step forward, which could be expensive.
Andrich had to be replaced at the break after injuring himself in a slip. In the second half, Schick reached the thigh and also left the field. In added time, Grimaldo got stuck in the lawn, but could continue playing, but seemed struck.
Hjulmand nevertheless had a good sense of his change: the recently substitute Ernest Poku scored in the 58th minute with his first ball contact for the renewed Leverkusen lead – just 110 seconds after his substitution.
Edmond Tapsoba had the first tour for the Werkelf (25th) after Hauke Wahl could not properly clarify the ball during a free kick from Grimaldo. Just seven minutes later, election equalized-and scored his first Bundesliga goal in the 38th game. Leverkusen’s goalkeeper Mark Flekken had previously had a corner slide through his fingers, choosing the uncertainty took advantage of ice cold.
After the change of sides, the hosts pushed further. Louis Oppie (53.), Manolis Saliakas (54.) and Sinani (55th) missed the lead – and were punished in return of Poku.
With the victory, Leverkusen overturns FC St. Pauli in the table and is now at eight points. The Hamburgers, on the other hand, conceded their first home defeat.
The next important game is coming up for Bayer on Wednesday: In the Champions League, PSV Eindhoven is concerned with the first success in the group phase. And it is not yet clear who is available from the battered players.
