Three candidates have come forward to revive De Drommedaar restaurant in Emmen. Councilor Albert Jan Jakobs reported that the registrations are assessed and a choice is then made.
The restaurant at Rensenpark served as a restaurant until two years ago, but then went bankrupt. The municipality then decided to renovate the building. The modern extension behind the building was demolished earlier this year by a new construction.
A total of 1.3 million euros will be allocated for the plan, almost half more expensive than originally budgeted. At the same time as the building is being repainted, the municipality is looking for a new tenant.
It is not the only catering point that the municipality of Emmen is working on. Jakobs previously indicated that the municipality wants to tackle the former savannah restaurant. This is the location where the Twessers teahouse was located until recently. This stopped earlier this year.
The municipality is now considering renovating or converting the building. Jakobs wants to further investigate whether the restaurant can be operated in combination with the petting zoo. A market consultation will follow soon, he says.
