Thomas Müller attracted attention with a big announcement for the summer of 2026. Now the secret is revealed.

Thomas Müller will be a TV expert at the 2026 World Cup. As MagentaTV announced on Friday, the 2014 world champion will be in front of the camera for the broadcaster during the tournament. All World Cup games will be shown live there.

In addition to the classic analyzes and live reactions, Müller will also be scheduled for casual discussions and tactical insights. Fans can only watch each of the 104 World Cup games on Magenta, although 60 games will also be broadcast on public broadcasters.

“I’m really excited about this new challenge and am really looking forward to the tournament. This time not on the pitch, but on the microphone,” said Müller. Together with the other team members, he wanted to show the fans “what is important at a World Cup on and off the pitch,” he explained. “But it will also be an exciting experience for me to analyze football games for the people at home as an outsider for the first time.”

Müller has been playing for the Vancouver Whitecaps in Canada since the summer. The World Cup tournament will be held in the USA, Mexico and Canada. With his commitment to Magenta, Müller becomes one of many players from the 2014 World Cup team who are now active as TV experts. These include Bastian Schweinsteiger for ARD, Christoph Kramer and Per Mertesacker for ZDF and Sami Khedira and Mats Hummels for DAZN.

Müller made a mysterious Instagram post on Friday morning. The picture showed him signing a contract. He only announced big news for the summer of 2026. This was preceded by thought games according to which Müller could become Julian Nagelsmann’s assistant coach for the German national team at the World Cup tournament. Nagelsmann himself blocked this with reference to his player contract in Vancouver.

Müller’s working paper with the Whitecaps nominally runs until winter of this year, but contains a club option until winter 2026. There is little doubt that the club will take up this option. So far, Müller has scored six goals in six games for the team and added another four goals.
