Thomas Müller left FC Bayern in summer. Now he spoke about the club’s procedure in the past few months.

Bavaria legend Thomas Müller was surprised by a statement by honorary president Uli Hoeneß. In the spring, the latter had suggested ending his career in summer. “The club had already decided internally and has not yet told me that Uli Hoeneß then tried to ‘build a bridge’ and publicly commented on my contract situation at the cinema premiere of my documentary, I was honestly not very happy,” explained Müller in an interview with the “Sportbild”.

The entire communication of FC Bayern displeased the original Bavarian. “Anyone who knows me knows that I am a friend of the open visor. Despite the bumpy introduction already described, my farewell to Bayern was absolutely exceptional and very special for me over the past few months.”

Müller started the talks with the club with a clear intent to continue his career at the German record champions to continue another year. But nothing came of it – even if sports director Max Eberl Müller promised the extension in early January. “The decision that I will no longer get a new contract came surprisingly for me at this time and due to the previous communication,” said Müller.

Despite the special circumstances, Müller, who is now for the first time for a club than FC Bayern, the Vancouver Whitecaps in Canada, is not disappointed with the way his career ended. “I was not disappointed. As I mentioned in my letter at the beginning of April, the communication was not really optimal at the end of my contract. I also said that I said that in Bavaria.”

After Müller’s departure, Bayern lack a large figure of identification. Who could grow into his role now, maybe Jamal Musiala? “I don’t want to put on this sentimental discussion at all. He should simply feel like a free spirit and have fun with football when he is fit again,” said Müller, who would have found it “great” if Florian Wirtz had chosen FC Bayern. However, Wirtz switched to Premier League club FC Liverpool this summer.
