In recent years, Thomas Gottschalk has repeatedly attracted attention for deliberately polarizing statements. He even wrote a book that plays on his new image as a “white old man” (“Unfiltered”). Maybe some people in the room had that at the award ceremony Bambi’s on Thursday (November 13th) in Munich, when some even booed the former “Wetten,dass..?” presenter.

What had happened? Gottschalk gave the eulogy for Cher, who received a golden fawn and who probably knew the 75-year-old quite well after numerous appearances on the Saturday evening show. However, that couldn’t prepare her for his erratic words.

Gottschalk repeatedly got tangled up in his own sentences and even seemed a bit overwhelmed with his role as a stage mascot. At one point he even pushed himself between the award winner and the cameras. However, Gottschalk mainly received boos for his introduction with the words: “Here she is, the only woman I have taken seriously in my life.”

Cher had to slow down Thomas Gottschalk

He later added wryly, “Cher, Cher, nothing is as heavy as Cher” and lamented that his own Bambi had melted down in the Los Angeles fires (which hit his mansion). What was worse was that Gottschalk claimed to have seen “everything” of Cher, which is why the singer hastened to emphasize that it was “not everything”.

In the meantime, the moderator stated that he was a bit confused. Just a few days ago, Gottschalk announced that he wanted to retire from the show.

Cher was honored with the Bambi as a “legend” at the awards ceremony. Laudator Hannes Jaenicke introduced Cher as “the artist, the icon, the humanist, the legend”. The award for the 79-year-old was the highlight at the end of the gala.

The question remains: What’s wrong with Thomas Gottschalk? So far there has been no comment from him about the strange appearance.
