This week FC Volendam will consult with the municipality and RKAV about artificial turf

It is clear that synthetic turf has had its day in the premier league. Yesterday, the Eredivisie clubs decided with the Eredivisie CV that the plastic blades are allowed for a maximum of two more football seasons. FC Volendam is talking this week with the municipality and the amateurs of RKAV Volendam about the main field to be replaced.

That conversation was already on the agenda. FC Volendam would also like to get rid of the artificial turf field that was laid down in the autumn of 2021. Trainer Wim Jonk is big fan of real grass but realize that The New Orange must make do with what it has.

Delay

Since the arrival of Jonk, FC Volendam has put the dot on the horizon several times for when the artificial grass should be replaced. Twice that ambition had to be pushed forward. FC Volendam will also play on artificial turf in the coming football season, but with the new agreements there is a maximum extension of one year after that. As of the ’25/’26 season, completely artificial grass is no longer allowed in the premier league. Hybrid grass (a mix of real grass blades and artificial grass blades) is allowed.

The main field of FC Volendam is used intensively for both matches and training. This not only concerns the first team, but also Jong Volendam and a large number of youth teams. For all those training hours, an alternative must be found that is not so easily available due to a lack of space. To come to a solution, the eredivisionist needs the help of the amateur branch and the municipality of Edam-Volendam.

FC Volendam switched to synthetic turf more than fifteen years ago. Clubs in the first division, such as Telstar. may continue to play football on artificial turf.
