Several thousand fans and invited guests came to the Uber Eats Music Hall in Berlin on Friday evening (April 10, 2026) – many in military jackets and aviator sunglasses, recreating the singer’s iconic looks. They celebrated the world premiere of “Michael,” the highly anticipated biopic about the King of Pop directed by Antoine Fuqua. Read here how the cast and crew dealt with the abuse allegations against Michael Jackson.

The family appeared divided on the red carpet. Jackson’s brothers Jackie, Jermaine and Marlon as well as his sons Prince and Bigi appeared – a rare public appearance for the latter two. Prince wore a black suit with a red shirt, a nod to his father’s look at the iconic 50th anniversary performance of American Bandstand in 2002.

“Michael”: Who came to the premiere and who was missing

Bigi stood out with a bracelet that featured a close-up image of Michael’s feet in one of his most iconic dance poses. However, three prominent family members were completely missing: daughter Paris and sisters Janet and LaToya Jackson. At the same time, Paris was photographed relaxing in West Hollywood, as “Stern” reported.

Paris had already made her distance from the film clear on Instagram last year. When actor Colman Domingo claimed she was supportive of the project, she sharply disagreed: She had zero percent involvement in the film, read an early draft of the script, made comments – and left the project when they were ignored. According to a report by Page Six, Janet’s relationship with the film is also considered difficult; She doesn’t even appear as a character in the film.

“Michael”: Information about the film

The film traces Jackson’s rise. We see his time from being the frontman of the Jackson 5 to his solo career with global hits like “Thriller” and “Beat It”. What he leaves out: the allegations of abuse. The topic was originally supposed to be part of the film, but according to media reports, a third of the film was cut.

The main role is played by Jaafar Jackson, nephew of the artist who died in 2009. He said on the red carpet that he had intensively studied archive material, but also drew on his own memories. His uncle Jackie Jackson, once part of the Jackson 5, told Reuters he forgot at times during the film that he was seeing Jaafar and not Michael on screen.

“Michael” opens in German cinemas on April 22nd.
