This year Sunday, February 15 is Shrove Sunday and Tuesday, February 17 is Shrove Tuesday. Many Finns and Nordics feast on various laskiis delicacies, most typically laskiis buns, this way in February when the season is at its hottest.
Laskaispulla has its roots in Sweden and other Nordic countries, where it has been eaten since the 18th and 19th centuries. Originally it was called as semla or as fastlagsbullaand it was a simple cardamom roll with almond paste in between.
In Sweden, the filling is always almond paste, but in addition to Finland, jam versions are also often eaten in, for example, Norway, Denmark and Estonia.
Laskaispull is a variant of the German delicacy hißwecke– from the bun.
In Finland, laskiai bun became established in the 20th century, and later also came the whipped cream filling. In the old days, laskiai bun was served in warm milk on a deep plate.
In addition to the traditional almond paste and jam, laskais buns are now also available with many other fillings, such as the hit Biscoff filling. Wind Lindgren
