This is what the new youth & sports complex Nieuwpoort looks like
The space will become a meeting place for children, young people, sports enthusiasts and associations. The complex consists of a multifunctional sports hall and a youth wing. Competitions can also take place there.
The project costs a good 13 million euros.
Vibrant heart at sports park
“The new youth and sports hall will be the bustling heart of urban sports park De Lenspolder and the focal point of Nieuwpoort as a sport-minded and youth-friendly coastal city,” says alderman of Youth and Sport Bert Gunst.
“As a city, we do everything we can to provide our residents with a high-quality leisure experience. The presence of solid infrastructure is crucial here. With this top project we provide an attractive meeting place where young and old can enjoy themselves.”
Room for the youth
In the complex, young people and children also get a permanent place where they can have fun and develop carefree. De Sortie youth house, childcare, teen and playground activities are given the necessary space here, explains alderman Bert Gunst: “The youth wing will be the base of operations for the Nieuwpoortse youngsters.
After all, children and young people need high-quality and accessible recreational opportunities where they do not experience any barriers to participate. From childhood until well into adolescence. We started here from the young people themselves. They were involved in the development of this project from the start. They were able to express their wishes and needs through workshops.”
Impact of work
The new building will be located in the urban sports park in Dudenhofenlaan. To this end, the existing accommodation of the Youth and Sports Service and the Youth Center will disappear. The Youth and Sports Service will continue to run at full capacity during the works.
Alternative spaces were created in the nearby football accommodation to continue to guarantee youth and sports activities, mayor Geert Vanden Broucke reports:
“We realize that this project will have a major impact. In order to maintain social well-being, we do everything we can, together with the relevant services, to continue youth and sports activities. We always focus on collaboration and dialogue.”
