First the scandals didn’t want to end, then fate wasn’t kind to “celebrities under palm trees”. Four years ago, the reality format was canceled overnight. The reason for this was that it featured Willi Herren, who died after the recording but during the broadcast on Sat 1.
The private broadcaster took a break from its format, which was extremely successful, especially during the Corona period. Previously, the celebrity series, which was staged with a lot of bite and was a little tighter than its competitors, had made headlines. First it was about bullying, then candidate Marcus Prinz von Anhalt had to be cut out because he made homophobic comments in an opening episode.
That was embarrassing to the point of being bad, but the unfiltered view of the participants, free to the point of absurdity, is at least a crucial ingredient in the successful concept. Now there will be a restart on Sat 1 from February 17th and a week before Joyn. So just a few days after the conclusion of the new “Jungle Camp” season.
Candidates “Celebrities under Palm Trees” 2025: Claudia Obert is also there again
Not much has changed: It’s still about money (50,000 euros) and a golden coconut, and presenter Jochen Bendel then discusses the highlights in a kind of late night show. The following candidates will be there: “DSDS” singer Menowin Fröhlich, reality star Janina Youssefian, ex-national goalkeeper Eike Immel, lottery millionaire Chico, Katzenberger mother Iris Klein, YouTuber Chris Manazidis, singer Cosimo Citiolo, reality star Kim Virginia, YouTuber Lisha Savage, influencer Nikola Glumac and “DSDS” singer Melody Haase and actually Claudia Obert again.
The open-hearted entrepreneur was at the center of the bullying discussion in the first season of “Celebrities Under Palms,” as she was verbally and violently attacked by several participants. Her renewed participation at least suggests that she now has a different perspective on the events of that time.
The now 63-year-old explained at the time that she did not allow herself to be permanently injured by the hostility of others such as Désirée Nick or Carina Spack. She emphasized that as an entrepreneur and public figure, she had already experienced many attacks and was not disturbed by them.
In an interview she also said: “I am the last person to allow myself to be bullied. I have too much style and class to let attacks like that get me down.”
After “Celebrities Under Palms”, Sat 1 – despite the boom in reality formats – has not managed to produce another program that generated a similar amount of excitement and at the same time achieved high ratings. It remains to be seen whether after the hearty jungle meal there is still enough appetite left for the tumultuous beach party. Some snacks only taste good if you have eaten other snacks beforehand.
