Radio presenter Olga Ketonen died on February 3, 2024.
Known as Olga K, the presenter suffered from congenital heart failure. Now Ketonen’s Yle Radio Finland colleagues tell For the home magazine Ketonen’s last time.
Ketonen had sometimes been sick and absent during his last months, sometimes at work.
He told about his illness to his work friends Markus Turunen and Sanna for Pirkkalainen In the fall of 2023, at the end of the workplace seminar day, the trio met at the bar counter. Pirkkalainen suggested scum, but Ketonen said he didn’t drink anything and told me that his heart was wrong.
Pirkkalainen asked if Ketonen could die for it. “It may happen,” Ketonen had said and for a moment everyone was crying. After that evening, colleagues did not talk about death.
Colleagues noticed that in the last year Ketonen began to get tired. This was known about this illness, but it was hardly talked about.
– I often asked Olga how he could, but I didn’t look at the details. Olga did not want her to be treated like a sick person, Pirkkalainen tells Kodin Kuvalehti.
When Ketonen had to be away from work, he apologized to others. He used to say that we would enjoy these things as long as they can. According to Turunen, he referred to the work situation in the industry.
– None of us could think that Olga would die, even though we knew he was seriously ill, Turunen said.
In addition to colleagues, Keto missed the spouse and two adult sons.
In an interview with Kotilieda in the spring of 2023, Ketonen said in an interview that his mother died at the age of 56 of breast cancer. Ketonen was 17 at the time.
Ketonen said in the interview that he was afraid he would die at the same age as his mother.
-My mother gave birth to me at the age of 39, and I got my firstborn at the same age. I imagined the arc was that I would die when I was 56, like my mother. Fortunately, it didn’t work, Ketonen told the magazine.
