Jay Leno, 72, the burns have been confirmed as third-degree burns, i.e. a degree more serious than initially reported. Leno is still hospitalized.

The injuries occurred when a fire broke out in Leno’s garage in Burbank, California.

TMZ knows how Leno was tinkering with his 115-year-old car when one of the pipes started leaking, and Leno got gasoline on his hands and face. The spark caused an explosion and Leno caught fire.

Fortunately, Leno was not alone in his garage, he had a friend with him. A friend came to the rescue and quickly put out the flames.
