Chocolate brown is the trend color for fall 2025 – and it’s everywhere.
From the runway to the street, this deep, warm brown dominates the current fashion world like no other tone. But while fashion magazine ‘Elle’ crowns it the color of the season and ‘Glamour’ predicts that you won’t be able to ignore it in autumn, one question remains unanswered for many:
How do you actually wear chocolate brown? Color consultant Jasmin Link has a surprising answer: It is “often an underestimated base color” – but absolutely indispensable with the right styling knowledge.
Which colors harmonize with chocolate brown?
The experts have specific combination tips: according to color consultant Jasmin Link, for example in combination with other “warm colors” such as cream white, olive green, orange and sunny yellow. Personal shopper Sonja Grau likes to see chocolate brown in combination with off-white, beige, gray, green, blue, yellow, purple and black. According to her, it is also particularly suitable: chocolate brown in combination with red, especially with burgundy red.
The fashion magazine ‘Elle’ also recommends the latter. Accordingly, the deep red tone harmonizes “excellently with brown nuances” and has already proven in the 1970s – when both colors were also trendy – “how elegant this duo can look”. Whether it’s a blouse, dress or accessory – together the combination of chocolate brown and burgundy red looks “feminine, stylish and absolutely suitable for autumn”.

According to Sonja Grau, chocolate brown can also be combined well with a leopard and jeans look. For Jasmin Link, “a wonderful combination with blue jeans or black trousers: chocolate brown sneakers or boots”. ‘Glamour’ is also currently seeing “more and more dark brown jeans”. Combined with black or cream, they are one of her “favorite denim innovations for fall 2025”.
Are there also bold combinations?
If you like it more experimental: the combination of brown and neon yellow is striking, says Jasmin Link. However, she advises against a combination with cool lemon yellow. This seems “quickly disharmonious”. According to her, the same applies to the mix of light turquoise and chocolate brown.

And what about an outfit all in brown tones?
That is also possible. “If you stick to the autumn forest with its different shades of brown, then you can easily see how beautifully chocolate brown can be combined with other brown tones,” says Sonja Grau. According to her, combinations with cognac or beige look “particularly beautiful”. For Jasmin Link, chocolate brown looks “harmonious” with lighter brown tones that have the same undertone, but with brown-grey and yellow-brown the effect is “quickly disharmonious”.
What makeup goes well with chocolate brown clothing?
“Chocolate brown is also very grateful here,” says Sonja Grau. It adapts well to both subtle and extravagant make-up. Jasmin Link can especially imagine green eye shadow going well with a brown outfit. According to her, bright turquoise blue tones are less suitable as eyeliner. This is how the chocolate brown outfit becomes the perfect look.
