F-Secure, a Finnish security company, released an earlier in April Router Checker toolto evaluate the safety of the home router.
The free tool is simply used by entering the character and model of your own router. The tool can also suggest options for user search terms, even if the exact model of the router does not remind you directly. The model of the device is typically found at the bottom of it.
The tool is looking for a public database maintained by the US administration to see if there are vulnerabilities known in the router model. If security threats are known, the tool will tell the danger in a clear Finnish language.
F-Secure says it is using artificial intelligence to understand the technical information of the tool in the tool.
– Vulnerability descriptions are often very technical. In order for everyone to understand the vulnerability, we have given the task of artificial intelligence to write descriptions in more easily understandable terms, F-Secure says on its website.
However, Router Checker has no way to improve the safety of your own router, it only tells you whether the safety of that device model has experienced a knock. Thus, the tool does not directly check the status of the router in the home or evaluate the adequacy of its protection, and the procedures taken for your router do not affect the vulnerability reported by the tool.

Supo warned
The Security Police has stated that it has regarded the old and unprecedented routers as a threat to national security, as an unprotected or poorly protected home route can allow unauthorized penetration of Finnish information systems.
– Telecommunications operators are responsible for the safe settings and maintenance of the equipment they provide, but in the equipment purchased by consumer trade, the responsibility for safe regulations and maintenance is self -voting, the Security Police said in the autumn of 2023.
Whether or not the vulnerabilities were known in your router, you can improve the security of each router by simple ways. Below The instruction in paragraph 10 to improve the security of the router.
This is how you protect your routers
- Connect the network cables to the right ports in the router.
- Remove remote control of the router.
- Change the default password of the control panel to unique and self -invented.
- Update the router software and keep it up to date.
- Give the network a unique name and avoid using default names.
- Keep the firewall in use and adjust it to prevent unnecessary connections.
- Secretly wifi connectivity.
- Reboot the router at regular intervals.
- Create a guest network and set your own password.
- Use your own network for your home intelligent IoT devices so that, for example, hacking a device does not endanger all your home network devices.
