The Simpsons has once again given Baby Maggie a prominent voice. And this time it’s Lindsay Lohan’s.
Adult Maggie speaks in detail for the first time
Over the course of the 33 seasons, Maggie has mostly kept her pacifier in her mouth, rarely speaks as a baby and only occasionally forms complete sentences, mostly in episodes that deal with the future of the characters.
This Sunday’s episode is based on exactly that. An adult Maggie lets words flow for the first time, spoken by Lindsay Lohan, whose voice is explained as hoarse within the plot.
“Please! Don’t let Bart drive,” says Maggie, voiced by Lohan, in a preview. “It’s way too scary. He drives so shaky and everyone is honking at us and shouting bad words and pointing their fingers at us.”
Reaction from Lindsay Lohan
“What a dream come true to be part of this iconic family,” Lohan wrote on social media.
Whenever Maggie actually spoke on The Simpsons, it usually involved a big star: For her very first words in the show’s canon – in a season four episode – Elizabeth Taylor was hired to say the word “Daddy.” In another future episode in season 20, Jodie Foster took on a longer monologue as older Maggie.
Prominent predecessors and connections
As Entertainment Weekly notes, there are subtle connections between Lohan and both of Maggie’s previous voices: She portrayed Elizabeth Taylor in the Lifetime film “Liz & Dick” and played the role of Jodie Foster in the 2003 remake of “Freaky Friday.”
Other familiar voices could also be heard. James Earl Jones, Viola Davis and Harry Shearer voiced Maggie in non-canon Treehouse of Horror episodes. Carol Kane lent her voice to Maggie for a single line in Bart’s introduction in a season two episode. Longtime Bart voice actress Nancy Cartwright usually takes over Maggie’s baby sounds.
