Third EuroLeague defeat in a row for Munich

Basketball runner-up Bayern Munich lost for the third time in a row at the end of the first half of the EuroLeague.

Against the Spanish club Baskonia Vitoria, the team of coach Andrea Trinchieri conceded a 76:81 (42:46) and slipped with now ten defeats from 17 games further into the lower half of the table.

“We didn’t have any creativity and didn’t fight. This is by far our worst game of the season,” said Trinchieri: “We’ve missed a very good chance of staying up there.”

The American KC Rivers, who had just returned from Zenit St. Petersburg two weeks ago, was Bayern’s best thrower with 16 points. Against the four-time Spanish champions, the Trinchieri team made a false start in the first quarter. Although Munich caught up again before the break, they did not come close despite a good final phase.

On Wednesday Alba Berlin had finished the first half of the season with a 92:84 against AS Monaco. The German champions have six wins and eleven defeats after 17 main round games, the deficit to defending champion Anadolu Istanbul (9: 8) in the last play-off place (8th) is even greater than that of Bayern.
