Thiaw celebrates opening win with AC Milan

National player Malick Thiaw got off to a great start with the Italian first division soccer team AC Milan in Serie A. With the German central defender in the starting XI, Milan beat FC Bologna 2-0 (2-0) on Monday evening.

France’s former world champion Olivier Giroud (11th) and former Dortmund player Christian Pulisic (21st) scored early for the team coached by Stefano Pioli, who, like in the second half of last season, relied on Thiaw from the start. The 21-year-old ex-Schalke player formed a strong duo in central defense with English international Fikayo Tomori in Bologna.

Thiaw made his senior debut in the 1-0 draw against Poland in June and also played in the 2-0 loss to Colombia. He was one of the few winners in the much-criticized German team.
