PVV’s asylum minister Marjolein Faber receives an incredible amount of criticism at the talk show tables because she is said to be incompetent. She was supported by kickboxer Rico Verhoeven in Renze Klamer’s talk show this week. He believes that Faber is at least doing something to reduce the influx of asylum seekers, even if the announced measures are mainly symbolic.

Faber bashing

Renze notices that there is a lot of criticism of the reporting about Faber. “The role of Minister Faber has of course already been much discussed. You also wrote about that, a fairly harsh column,” he says to Wouter de Winther in his talk show. “A source you quoted said, ‘It’s a recipe for a hell of a mess.’ Those are big words.”

“She is of course dealt with harshly at every table where these kinds of things are discussed. I had Rico Verhoeven here this week who said: ‘At least she is doing her best.’ I also get a lot of feedback online, I must say: ‘Yes, you’re always bashing Faber.’”

Something positive?

Renze does not recognize that. According to him, the criticism is justified. “I think: even if we look as objectively as possible… Can you say something positive about her actions in recent weeks and months?”

Telegraaf journalist Wouter de Winther: “Well, you know what it is, Renze… It is clear that the voter has given a signal to politicians when it comes to migration. (…) But when it comes to its implementation, many turns are missed and things simply don’t go well. That depends on several things, including inexperience.”

Meddling

It also depends on the party structure of the PVV, according to Wouter. “Where Wilders is the boss and she is also dependent on what Wilders likes and what doesn’t. We hear stories that she makes decisions at the ministry that later have to be withdrawn after consultation with the big boss. These are special practices.”

“It’s not about hating Marjolein Faber. The point is that you can judge a minister after six months on: has there been any progress?”

Really dissatisfied

Renze states that this is weighted criticism. “The criticism – and this is good to make clear, I think – does not come from people who have an interest in bashing her and pursuing a completely different political course, but also from people who are completely on the same course in terms of content. , but just really dissatisfied with her ministerial work.”

“Yes, and these are also colleagues in the cabinet,” Wouter concludes.
