The Minister of Security of Santa Fe, Pablo Cococcioni confirmed that the Provincial Intelligence area detected a plan to attack the life of Governor Maximiliano Pullaro. The information was made public after several special forces operations in Rosario and Ibarlucea, where a weapons arsenal was found that was part of the logistics of the drug gang known as “Los Menores.”
Cococcioni pointed out that the weapons seized “are not weapons that are used to rob a kiosk” and that they were prepared for “a much more important blow”, which, according to the information collected, agrees with the hypothesis of a possible attack on the highest institutional figure of the Province. “We had several sources that pointed out that possibility. Having found those weapons was, all in all, good news, because it was confirmation that the reports were correct,” said the provincial official in dialogue with the Que Quede Claro program, on LT10.
During the operations, buried weapons, hundreds of ammunition, cash and vehicles were seized. Among what was seized are two military-use rifles, six semi-automatic pistols and six hunting weapons. The material was found in a home in Ibarlucea and in a home in the 7 de Septiembre neighborhood, in the northwest of Rosario, an area linked to the investigated organization.
“Since the prison regime was tightened for high-profile prisoners, threats were flying. “We work with intelligence information from various sources to anticipate and counter these threats to public safety,” the minister said.
As a result of what happened, Cococcioni recommended that Pullaro take extreme care. “We suggested increasing the security thresholds in public buildings. It is no longer a verbal suggestion, but was reflected in a written report”Cococcioni concluded about the new measures that will surround the governor and his entourage.
The information about the frustrated attack recalled an episode in the recent history of the Province, when a gang attacked the then governor Antonio Bonfatti. On October 11, 2013, hooded men fired 20 shots at the house of the then first provincial leader, in Rosario. As a result of that event, a former police officer was convicted.
