As part of the years planned for HD, YLE’s basic channels have become silent, and there are only HD channels available. In the summer, the same happens on commercial channels.
YLE’s television channels can no longer be watched without a TV or a set-top box with an HD tuner.
Yle has ended its SD or basic television broadcast. Yle TV1, Yle TV2 and Yle Teema & Fem will only be featured at HD level on April 1, 2025. This means that watching these now requires a receiver with an HD tuner (DVB-T2), either on a high-definition TV or a digital box.
The change is due to the long-term planning of the entire TV industry and Traficom. The technical change in antenna and cable networks was made between Monday and Tuesday night at 2.01.
Commercial television channels will end their basic broadcast on June 30. After this change, Finland will only be sent in the antenna and cable network only HD-level images.
Extensive information
According to Traficom, there are still about 100,000 television households in Finland without an HD-compatible receiver. In a Monday announcement, the authority said the number of HD compatible households had only halved a year.
-We have worked extensively with the TV business, e-operators, industry organizations, and senior and retirement organizations, to reach the transition to all populations, Traficom Project Manager Artturi Kavaja said in the bulletin.
