Album of the week: Julien Baker & Torres – “Send a Prayer My Way”
Breast milk? Air? Osmosis? Astonishing again and again, as is unemployed to switch on country music.
Country not as a discourse mass, but simply as a blue hour of white women here. It will be great when Baker and Torres sing unanimously in “Downhill Both Ways” or the tired desert ride “No Desert Flower”.
If it is really deep (“Bottom of a Bottle”), Gravitas is missing. And for the cover photo, just to do a real country act on the studiosofa would never allow itself.
But the duo already has songs that “can feel people within five seconds after switching on inside” (Torres). Why – children and animals – the Sylvia (presumably as in Sylvia Plath) does not lack the nursing bourgeois. And we can all use prayers well. ((Jörg Feyer)))
Tunde Adebimpe – “Thee Black Boltz”
The singer of TV on the radio can now call himself star, he also acts as an actor. But he can still music. This proves his very confident solo debut, which ties on to his parent band, but has yet a trace of trendy.
Tunde Adebimpe increases into a fine chamber post-patch-in-inferno, which Prince can also have as an influence, but never outsource and crosses certain limits-anger and experiments only in the frame!
And suddenly he passes with a gentle ballad reminiscent of Kele like “Ily”. Very own, but always hand in hand with the listener. ((Frank Lähnemann)))
