With the violent death of Silvana in Hoogeloon, something happened that we rarely see. It seems that suspect Marlon B. hid his ex’s body in a forest. Dumping a body usually happens at night, according to similar disappearance cases in Brabant. Another striking similarity: the man himself put the body in his car and drove it to the dump site.
The case in Hoogeloon evokes memories that go back quite a bit in time. Over the past twenty years there have been several Brabant murder cases with major similarities.
Trunk Murder
The ‘Uden trunk murder’ in 2006 is notorious. Marga and Hans were married and had two children, but had decided to separate. They no longer slept together every night, but in the same house.
Hans bought a rifle and two days later he snuck into her bedroom in the middle of the night and shot her in the head. He buried her body in the Ardennes. Later he dug her up to dump her in Germany, but there he was caught.
The man has never really been clear about his motive, but it seems that he wanted to get rid of her because of the broken relationship. The court later ruled that the man acted deliberately and sentenced him to 20 years in prison. The man died after a few years in prison.
Family murder
In 2005 there was a notorious family murder: Claudia and her three and five-year-old daughters disappeared in Zoetermeer. Her husband Richard had several extramarital affairs and stated to the police that his family stood in his way.
One night he knocked his wife unconscious and strangled his daughters. He buried them in a forest near Chaam. Then he met up with his Polish girlfriend and only after about ten days did he report his family as missing. The police did not trust that and found traces of blood in his house and eventually the bodies in Chaam. Richard received 20 years in prison and TBS.
Murder with claw hammer
Tinka from Breda dated the wrong men. One evening in 2004, they were all together in a weed farm in Zevenbergschen Hoek. There a friend of hers, who is called Arno, beat Tinka to death with a claw hammer. He wrapped the woman in plastic and dumped her in the Biesbosch.
Why he killed Tinka has never been clarified. At the time, the story was that he had a crush on her but couldn’t have her. The man was sentenced to 18 years in prison.
18 years in prison or more
In all cases, the violent death counted heavily for the judges, but so did the disrespectful hiding of the body. 18 years in prison seems to be the lower limit that is imposed. Sometimes TBS follows.
What it was all about in Hoogeloon and whether the suspect also dumped Silvana is not yet officially known. Everything is still under investigation.
