One of the many solutions to resolve the housing shortage will be a definitive follow -up in the Eindhoven and Helmond region. People over 65 who still live in a (too) large rental home or apartment are given priority on the waiting list if they want to live smaller. Eleven housing corporations in the Metropolitan Region Eindhoven agreed with each other after a successful test.

There are many single elderly people and sets who live in a large rental home. While they no longer need all the space and want to live smaller. With the new arrangement ‘From large to better’ they can now move more easily and faster to a smaller rental home. As a result, more space must be released for families.

Over the past three years, a trial with the flow of the elderly in the region, successfully according to the eleven rental organizations. In the region, 324 people aged 65 and older have used the scheme. In total, more than nine hundred elderly people were interested. The hope is, now that the priority scheme becomes permanent, that even more elderly people are moving to smaller house or apartment.

These are the eleven participating corporations:

  • Uphill
  • Compaten
  • Good living
  • Helps each other
  • Trudo
  • Housing Foundation at home
  • Popular interest
  • Wocom
  • Residential company
  • Wooninc.
  • Residential partners

People over 65 who use the scheme do not necessarily have to move within the municipal boundaries.

The home problem has not yet been resolved with this regulation. That is why the housing associations have previously agreed with the government, the province and the 21 municipalities in the region to build considerably more social rental homes.
