Computers that utilize artificial intelligence have been expected to boost to the PC market, but so far their breakthrough has been delayed. The market research company Gartner predicted last year that artificial intelligence models would conquer the market by 2026.

However, according to recent Context’s market information, development is slower than expected. According to the sales figures collected by the company, 40 % of the computers sold in Europe in October -December 2024 were artificial intelligence models, but that does not mean significant breakthrough in the industry, write Technology site The Register.

-Manufacturers increase artificial intelligence functions to more and more devices, which makes the artificial intelligence PC inevitable, not so much the choice of consumers. However, this does not mean that consumers are actively looking for these features, Context’s older analyst Marie-christine pygott says according to The Register.

Only 5 % of artificial intelligence computers belonged to the Microsoft Copilot+ collection, which represents PCs operating with Windows 11. They are equipped with a neural processing unit (NPU), which enhances artificial intelligence calculation.

Above all, high price and software compatibility issues are slowed down by the proliferation of Copilot+laptops. Their average price is EUR 1 120, which is significantly more than the average price of € 712 for traditional portable ports. In addition, the use of ARM-based Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X processor has caused compatibility problems with some Windows applications.

Microsoft has sought to set Copilot+equipment as a competitor for Apple’s MacBook models, but so far sales have not lived.

Analysts believe that demand for artificial intelligence pcs is increasing over time, but development is slower than originally anticipated in the industry.
