Hidden behind the trees and shrubs on the Van Aalstlaan is the former building of the funeral company Monuta. The municipality wants to build new rental and owner-occupied homes for seniors on this site.

You can also see the building from the car along the Australweg. The Monuta building has been used as the first funeral home in Zoetermeer since 1978. In the early 2000s the location moved to the Hoflaan in the Buytenpark. Since then, several tenants have moved into the vacant building.
New-build homes for seniors
Van Aalstlaan 24 is one of fourteen locations in Zoetermeer that was designated by the city council in 2018 for an early start of housing construction. This is to meet the high demand for housing in our city. The site will house 100 to 150 homes for the elderly who can still live independently. They do have easy access to care here. They will be both rental and owner-occupied homes and the former Monuta building will also remain standing.
Residents also have something to say
