These are the 5 wettest places in Brabant and the least rain falls here

We have an extremely wet spring. From January to now, there has been more rain than usual. But in some places in Brabant it is very wet. Giersbergen takes the cake. There has been 434 millimeters of precipitation there so far this year. Forty percent more than, for example, in Leende, the driest place in Brabant. Normally, an average of 870 millimeters of precipitation falls in our country in a whole year.

Weerplaza sorted that out for us. According to meteorologist Johnny Willemsen, it is mainly a matter of bad luck or luck. “These big differences are caused by the downpours of recent weeks. In some places there is 30 millimeters of precipitation, while it remains dry a little further on.”

That also happened last weekend. It remained dry in a large part of Brabant, while entire streets in Eindhoven were flooded. “So it may just be that places where even less rain has fallen now will catch up in the coming days.”

The top 5 places where the most rain fell:

  1. Giersbergen 434.6 mm
  2. Zundert 416.1
  3. Gilze Rows 414.6
  4. First 399.9
  5. Esbeek 397.4

The top 5 places with the least rainfall:

  1. Gemert 336.0 mm
  2. Borrowed 308.1
  3. Maarheeze 310.0
  4. Someren 325.1
  5. Bergen op Zoom 335.5

At the care farm in Giersbergen they can laugh about it. “We have no influence on it,” says Adrie Ros (76). Five days a week he comes to the daytime activities for the elderly and is on his knees working in the vegetable garden. “We haven’t had to spray yet. And nature has had time to recover, so that’s nice.”

The owner of the care farm hopes that it will be a bit drier in Giersbergen in the near future. “Normally we have already been able to get the first vegetables from the garden, but now we still eat winter food here,” laughs Hellen Junggeburth.
