Seventeen Brabant municipalities still have to arrange 3,362 reception places for asylum seekers from PVV minister Marjolein Faber. The Minister of Asylum and Migration announced this on Monday evening. Nationally, the minister is still short of more than 6,000 of the required 96,000 shelter places.

The original intention was that the Brabant municipalities would jointly arrange 13,444 shelter places. At the end of October, the province submitted the plans for this to the minister and it turned out that the number had remained at 12,422.

Too few places arranged
Brabant therefore did not comply with the assignment, just like a number of other provinces. As a result, Minister Faber is still more than 6,000 shelter places short.

According to the distribution law, these must be distributed among municipalities, looking at population numbers and prosperity. Brabant municipalities still have to look for 3,362 shelter places. These places must be found before July 1, 2025.

Exceptions
Villages and cities that have not yet fulfilled their mission must now take care of those places. Municipalities that have achieved the number of shelter places that were requested of them will receive an exception. This also applies to municipalities where asylum reception has been provided for some time, such as in Cranendonck and Gilze en Rijen.

This leaves 17 municipalities in Brabant. You can see what these are on the map below:
